Co-Offensive Coordinators

With Will Muschamp coming out this week suggesting he does not want anyone to completely revamp the offense, and for the most part, keep the existing playbook, he has answered a lot of questions. Some are not very promising. The idea that the offense is not going to change must in 2012 is sobering. However, with this piece of news, we not can officially rule out Oklahoma State's OC Todd Monken, who's offenses are geared for Big XII defenses, anyway. Monken is not going to take over anyone's playbook. In fact, Muschamp has push away any innovative coordinator interested in the position with his latest comments.

There are still some NFL guys out there that could get a look, but I don't know how promising any of them would be. The NFL mentality may be a great blue print for creating a great college program (see Alabama), but the college game is driven by taking chances and being aggressive. Let's face it, John Fox would not win many college football games. So, having said that, an NFL guy with this type of mentality is going to be very bland in the SEC.

With Muschamp suggesting he is going to keep most of the playbook intact, he quietly leads us to believe the following. You're probably going to see a co-cordinator situation in 2012, with Brian White being retained (to help keep the playbook intact and continuity with the players), then Florida's second son, Kerwin Bell will be hired on as quarterback coach and co-offensive coordinator, slowly implementing his own offense into the current playbook.

I would look for Bell to get the play calling responsibilities, to add more spice and creativity. However, keeping White on staff and promoting him will only help Bell be more successful. Of course, this is all speculation, but based on the information we've received thus far, this seems to be more of a possibility. I think all of GatorNation feels the way I do and just having Bell on staff in any capacity would be a huge bonus.

Kerwin Bell Notes:

Just a few notes on Kerwin Bell: Jacksonville University had the No. 1 offense in the nation in 2010, (leading all schools in scoring and in total yards). For argumentative purposes here are a few names that started in FCS, Division II or the High School ranks who moved on to successful careers in FBS.

Jim Tressell: Youngstown State 1986-2000
Paul Johnson: 1997-2001
Art Briles: High School 1983-1999
Mike Leach: Valdosta State 1992-1996
Jim Harbaugh: San Diego 2004-2006
Gus Malzahn: High School 1992-2006

Of course, there are plenty of others, however, the names listed above are very popular of late and coaches who have had a lot of success at the FBS level. This will help you when making your Kerwin argument to other nonbelievers.

Muschamp on hiring new OC

A fan favorite and definitely one of mine, Kerwin Bell's name might not just be a rumor any longer. See Muschamp's comments regarding the position of OC.

“I know Kerwin, he’s an outstanding football coach and certainly will be under consideration,” Muschamp said.

This would be a great hire, due to Kerwin's connections in the state of Florida and his ties to UF.
You can read more information on Kerwin from the link below (written last year).
